Georgia Michaelides Saad
Biography
Born in Limassol, Cyprus. Lived in South Africa between 1968-1996. Currently lives and works in Limassol.
Georgia Michaelides Saad's work is rooted in a sustained engagement with nature, particularly at a time when our relationship with the natural world is increasingly fragile. Through close observation of botanical forms, the artist creates imagined, hybrid flora that blur the boundaries between plant, body, and organism.
Focusing on enlarged and fragmented flowers, she explores the tension between beauty and distortion. Vivid colour, meticulous detail, and luminous surfaces draw the viewer in, while subtle shifts in scale and structure introduce a quiet sense of disorientation.
The flowers of Georgia Michaelides Saad bloom enormous, filling the canvas and inviting the viewer to cherish the absolute perfection of these natural forms. Blossoms are transformed into icons, revealing their structure, colour, and light with such clarity that the work moves beyond the familiar into the uncanny.
Georgia Michaelides Saad earned a Bachelor of Arts in Fine Arts and a Higher Diploma in Education from the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, a Master of Arts in Fine Arts (Painting) from the University of South Africa, Pretoria, and a Master of Arts in the History and Theory of Art from the Cyprus University of Technology.
