RIANA RAOUNA is pleased to present the solo exhibition of South-Korean artist Seungkyung Oh, "Heterotopia". Through fifteen paintings, the artist attempts to go beyond the visual and offer a transformative experience to the viewer, escaping from the mundane.
"Heterotopia" is based on Michel Foucault's doctrine of a real yet fundamentally different space towards the fantastical and the ideal. Using diverse painterly strategies, Seungkyung Oh constructs canvases imbued with a layered sense of space. Her vibrant color palette, compositional approach, and textured surfaces evoke dreamlike, and at times uncanny, environments. These heterotopian landscapes are not only aesthetically magnetic-almost addictive in their visual appeal-but also serve as gateways for inner reflection.
The featured works invite viewer to reconnect with a primal desire to merge with nature and to open themselves to new forms of transformation. As such, the paintings transcend mere visual experience; they act as platforms for transformative encounters. These are deeply tied to our need to escape the rhythms of contemporary life and embrace alternative ways of seeing and being.
