Jovita Majewski
Biography
Born in 1987 in Marburg, Germany. Lives and works in Cologne.
In her abstract-surrealist oil paintings, Jovita Majewski explores themes related to climate change, the loss of natural resources, and the complex relationship between humans and the environment. According to the artist, "the very concept of 'environment' illustrates how we separate ourselves from nature instead of seeing ourselves as an integral part of it."
The colour blue is prevalent in her paintings, symbolising the sky, the ocean, and our planet. It often appears artificial and alienated, reflecting the artist's attempt to highlight the discrepancy between the natural world and her personal perception of it. Majewski creates a space for reflection and dialogue, encouraging viewers to reconsider their connection to nature. Her commitment and passion about a sustainable future goes beyond her works, since she is active in charitable projects and workshops on climate change.
Jovita Majewski is a graduate of Fine Art from the Düsseldorf Akademie, where she studied under Katharina Fritsch, and of Art History from the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität in Bonn, Germany. She is also a lecturer for classical art courses and workshops on climate change and art at the Kunstschule Monheim am Rhein, KIT Düsseldorf, Kunsthalle Düsseldorf.
Her work has been presented in over 25 solo and group exhibitions across Germany and the UK.
